How to connect a number with Embedded Signup
Embedded Signup is Meta's own flow for linking a phone number to the WhatsApp Business Platform without leaving the app you're signing up in. This guide walks through what happens during Embedded Signup, what Meta verifies along the way, and what to have ready so your number connects on the first try.
Updated
Embedded Signup is the flow Meta provides so a business can connect a phone number to the WhatsApp Business Platform directly from a partner’s app — in this case, from WaCRM’s setup flow — rather than configuring the WhatsApp Business API by hand through Meta’s developer console.
What happens during Embedded Signup
- You log in with Facebook. Embedded Signup runs inside a Meta-hosted popup tied to your Facebook account.
- You pick or create a Meta Business Portfolio. This is the container Meta uses for your business identity, ad accounts and WhatsApp Business Account together.
- You enter your business details. Legal name, address and category, used for business verification.
- You add or confirm your phone number. A number not already registered elsewhere on WhatsApp, or one you are moving with coexistence.
- You verify the number. Meta sends a code by SMS or voice call to confirm you control it.
- You set a display name. The name customers see in their chat list — this goes through its own Meta review, separate from business verification.
What to prepare beforehand
- A phone number that can receive an SMS or voice call during signup, and that is not already registered to a different WhatsApp Business Account.
- Legal business details matching official registration documents, to avoid a business verification mismatch.
- A clear display name that matches how customers already know your business — generic or promotional names are more likely to be rejected.
- Facebook Business Manager access, or be ready to create one during the flow.
If you want coexistence
If you want to keep using the WhatsApp Business app on your phone at the same time, tell us before starting — coexistence changes a step in the flow. See the coexistence guide for exactly what that involves and what to check if your phone is later reset.
Where WaCRM fits in
Quick Setup runs this entire flow for you: we drive Embedded Signup on your behalf, handle business verification, get your display name approved, and turn on coexistence — typically within 48 hours. See Quick Setup for details.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Facebook Business Manager account first?
Yes, or you create one as part of the flow — Embedded Signup links your number to a Meta Business Portfolio (Business Manager) and a WhatsApp Business Account under it.
Can I use a number that already has WhatsApp on my phone?
Yes, with coexistence — see the coexistence guide for what that means and what to check first.
What if business verification is refused?
It happens, usually over a document or name mismatch. WaCRM offers a rescue service for a restricted number or a refused verification — see Services.
